Did you know that anyone born after January 1, 1988 is required to have a Florida Boating Certificate and a photo ID to operate a boat? Do you know how do you get a license? By simply completing the America’s Boating Course offered by the Anna Maria Island Sail & Power Squadron.
This basic boating course is held on two consecutive Saturdays, 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the first day (lunch included), and 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the second day (no lunch). Manuals are needed to review material and study, so it is a personal decision if couples want to share or purchase individual manuals. All exams are graded and certificates provided to those passing at the end of the second day.
The course includes:
- Boat nomenclature
- Required safety equipment
- Rules of the road
- Aids to navigation
- Trailering and PWC operation and rules
Completing the course and passing the USPS and Florida State exams qualifies you to receive a Florida Boating Certificate and a free six-month membership in the USPS. Passing this course may give you a discount on your boater’s insurance depending upon your insurance company.
