Bean Point Beach

Planning a quiet beach day on Anna Maria Island? Bean Point Beach is one of the most scenic spots on the island, known for soft sand, open water views, wildlife, and a more peaceful feel than the busier public beaches. It takes a little extra effort to reach, but that is part of what makes it feel so special.

Enjoy Sun, Sand, and Surf

Bean Point sits at the northern tip of Anna Maria Island, where the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay meet. It is a beautiful place for a slower beach day, especially if you want space to walk, take photos, watch the birds, or sit by the water without as much activity around you.

This beach is best for visitors who come prepared. There are no restrooms, concessions, lifeguards, or large parking lots at Bean Point, so bring what you need for the day and pack out anything you bring in. A few things to bring:

  • Beach towels or chairs
  • Water and snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • A small picnic
  • Camera or phone for photos
  • Comfortable shoes for the walk
  • A bag for trash

What Makes Bean Point Beach Special

Bean Point Beach on Anna Maria Island is known today as one of the island’s more private-feeling beach areas, but it also has a lot of local history. The area was once the homestead of George Emerson Bean, the founder of Anna Maria Island. In 1892, he chose the northern tip of the island for a 160-acre homestead, eventually developing the area with his son’s help.

After George Emerson Bean died in 1898, his son continued the planning of the city of Anna Maria with Charles Roser, a real estate developer and businessman. Together, they helped establish streets, a water system, homes, schools, churches, and the island’s first community.

The original homestead buildings are no longer there, but the area still feels different from other parts of the island. It is open, scenic, and less built up, with wide views of the water and plenty of space to enjoy the shoreline.

Bean Point is also one of the best places to be on Anna Maria Island for sunset. Since the views are wide open, you can watch the sky change over the water without buildings or crowds blocking the scene. It is also a good spot for birdwatching, wildlife photos, and quiet walks along the sand.

Getting to Bean Point Beach takes a little planning. Beach access points are marked near:

  • Gladiolus Street and North Shore Drive
  • Fern Street and North Shore Drive

Street parking is limited, with a few spaces nearby, including around Fern Street and Jacaranda Road. You can also take the free trolley to the Anna Maria City Pier and walk a little under a mile to Bean Point, which usually takes about 16 to 20 minutes. If you are staying close by, biking can be one of the easiest ways to reach the beach.
