Since 1917, the non-profit Morean Arts Center has created engaging art experiences for Tampa Bay residents and visitors. Located in downtown St. Petersburg, the Morean consists of the Morean Arts Center, Glass Studio & Hot Shop, Morean Arts Center for Clay and the Chihuly Collection. Combination tickets allow visitors to have a complete arts experience through art classes, jewelry making, photography and much more.
At the Glass Studio & Hot Shop, watch working artists create magnificent glass pieces while providing a running commentary on the steps they are following, the science behind the glass, and the artistic vision guiding the process.
The Morean Center for Clay is the largest working pottery in the Southeast. See artists working or make some yourself in one of their classes.
But, at the heart of it all is the Chihuly Collection from the collection of the world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly. The Chihuly Collection contains all of the artist’s signature works: Chandeliers, Mille Fiore, Persian Ceiling and Float Boat, installations with hundreds of individual components, plus more individual sculptures and vessels. In 2016, the collection is relocating directly across the street from the Morean Arts Center to 11, 000 square feet of exhibit space. Call ahead to make sure the collection is open for viewing.
